Workshop

DARTER Retina: Biomarkers and therapeutics in inherited retina diseases

14th October 2021 (online)

To commemorate the World Sight Day, which took place on the 14th of October, our DARTER Cost Action organized an exciting one-day webinar on eye research. This event took place virtually via Zoom and was coordinated by several DARTER members working on retinal diseases. We gathered an exceptional panel of experts, who addressed all the relevant updates in the field of inherited retinal diseases (IRD).

The webinar was divided into three main blocks:

Block 1: Retinal processing, models, and biomarkers of diseases
Block 2: Retinal phenotypes and Therapeutics Part I
Block 3: Retinal phenotypes and Therapeutics Part II

Briefly, the first block aimed to present the basic concepts on retinal structure and physiology, basic and clinical readouts and biomarkers. Then, the second and third blocks were dedicated to the clinical aspects of IRDs, their experimental models and the therapeutic approaches.

Overall, this was a fruitful event, which provided plenty of opportunities for an active debate among speakers and audience. It also promoted the exchange of information and results from individual groups participating in the Action and groups from other Consortia.

Ultimately, the DARTER Retina 2021 virtual Workshop has allowed general networking among all participants, which will help to move the field forward, serving to align research efforts and to disseminate knowledge and practical laboratory information.

The detailed program can be found here, and recorded presentations are available in here.
